First International Conference

The Philippine Academic Consortium for Latin American Studies (PACLAS) is pleased to announce the holding of its first international conference on Philippine-Latin American Relations in Manila on December 15-17, 2008 be hosted by the city government of Manila and the University of the Philippines. The Venue is the University of the City of Manila (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila), right inside historic Intramuros (walled city).

El Futuro del Espanol

Philologist and academic of the Spanish language Humberto Lopez Morales will speak on the current situation of the Spanish language and its sociolinguistic evolution. Humberto Lopez Morales (Havana, Cuba, 1936)is one of the big names in Hispanic Philology of the 20th century. His scientific work covers more than two hundred fifty titles, with more than fifty books. In 1992 he was honoured a recognition from the hispanists in the monograph Homage to Humberto Lopez Morales

Iberia, A Flamenco Performance

Pianist Rosa Torres-Pardo and dancer Lola Greco form a unique show where the music of Albeniz is interpreted through piano, guitar, and dance. Torres-Pardo has selected different pieces from the four notebooks of Albeniz:"Evocacion,""El Puerto,""El Corpus en Sevilla,""Almeria,""Triana,""El Albaicin," interweaving piano, guitar, and dance to form parts of "Iberia." Greco, the first international celebrity of the National Ballet of Spain, develops her choreographic vision for the pieces of Albeniz. Accompanying her dance with castanets, she creates a dialogue between the solos of the piano and guitar
