PACLAS Organizes “Semana Latinoamericana”

The Philippine Academic Consortium for Latin American Studies (PACLAS) is organizing a Semana Latinoamericana (Latin American Week) on March 4 to 5, 2004.  To be held at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), PACLAS and all participating embassies of Latin American countries have lined up cultural, educational and fun events that will be open to the public.

On March 4, opening ceremonies will be at 10 in the morning with the opening remarks to be given by a representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs.  This will be followed by musical renditions and ceremonial ribbon cutting for the exhibits of PACLAS member-institutions and participating embassies.  Closing remarks will be given by Revered Dr. Tamerlane R. Lana, O.P., Rector of the UST.  In the afternoon, the festival features select films of Latin America to be shown at the CME Auditorium, St. Martin de Porres Bldg. at the UST.

March 5 kicks off with the presentation of respective countries with video clips by the Latin America ambassadors at 9 in the morning.  In the afternoon, film showings continue. The venue for the day’s activities will be the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex auditorium.
